EXCLUSIVE: Rachel Alejandro hopes ‘Ang Larawan’ makes the final cut for MMFF

After attending the opening ceremonies of the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), Ang Larawan producer and actress Rachel Alejandro said it was an honor to be one of the two chosen films from the Philippines. “It is even more gratifying that I am walking not just as an actor but one of the producing team for Ang Larawan, our passion project. It is, after all, considered an 'A' list festival. It is definitely prestigious and an honor for us first-time producers. It has been a great learning experience so far. One of the main goals of the festival is to give a chance for film makers, industry folk, and film buyers to network and be able to show our films to a global audience,” Rachel shared.Despite not having made it into the initial selection for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, Rachel is hopeful Ang Larawan makes the final cut. “We haven't moved on and in fact, we resubmitted our film to be considered as one of the final four. There will be a total of eight chosen films for MMFF this year. Only four have been chosen in the initial selection in the middle of 2017. We are waiting with bated breath for the November 17 announcement. Please pray for us,” she shared.Originally based on the musical written by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin’s three-act English play A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, Rachel hopes the younger generation can rediscover why Ang Larawan is a historical film worth watching. “I think young people would really find it interesting that watching the film is like time traveling back to the 1940s, to Intramuros which is a different Manila from what we know. It's not just a city but a way of life that we somehow lost. I hope they will question and discuss the choices made by the characters and learn a thing or two,” she said.Rachel is also busy promoting her new single “Kahapon, Ngayon, at Bukas” which is part of the Ang Larawan official soundtrack (which is a duet composed by Ebe Dancel) as well as preparing for the release of The Sexy Chef’s third book Fight Fat under ABS-CBN Publishing.
