Winwyn Marquez shares details on what went on in the pageant held in Bolivia.
Being the first Asian delegate in history to join the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant, Winwyn Marquez did not deny there was additional pressure to perform well. But last November 4, she did the Philippines proud as she brought home the crown from the pageant held in Sta. Cruz, Bolivia. “I was really happy, I was satisfied. Whatever happens, okay lang sa akin yun kasi I never thought I’d go that far kasi it’s a powerhouse of beauty queens in Reina Hispanoamerica and I was just praying for it. Nung last natin magkita sabi ko gagalingan ko para sa inyong lahat, ngayon nagkita tayo ulit nauwi ko na yung crown. Thank you sa lahat ng love, sa lahat ng news, sa lahat ng nagsuporta sa akin. Thank you very much. Lahat yun nabasa ng mga ibang candidates tapos naging curious sila. Sa magagandang salita din niyo mas nabuhayan ako,” she shared during her homecoming presscon held last November 13 in Quezon City.
Winwyn said she was grateful to the two other Pinoys present during the competition who gave her continuous support. “I’m very, very thankful to my mayor Edwin Olivares. He helped me talaga. He’s the one who sent my brother and my aunt to Bolivia para merong dalawang Pinoy na papapalakpak sa akin (laughs). Kasi sa totoo lang po, sa unang mga presentation silang dalawa lang ang pumapalakpak sa akin. So imagine how hard it was for me when I was walking on stage and there were just two people clapping for me. It was hard and I was grateful for my brother, for my tita Aileen and to Mayor Edwin dahil kahit papaano may dalawang Pinoy na sumusuporta sa akin nung mga unang times dun,” she admitted.
Winwyn said she is looking forward to her homecoming parade to be held in Parañaque on the 20th. “I’m not sure what they’re going to do. They’re not telling them. I think it’s a surprise. Siyempre dun ako nagsimula, dun ako talaga lumaki and excited ako makita lahat.”
The 25-year-old actress said she was not aware she was an early favorite in the pageant. “No eh kasi hindi mo mabasa eh. I don’t know because I don’t really understand what’s going on. Pero iba kasi yung binibigyan nila ng attention. Siguro akala nila favorite ako kasi I was one of the first ones to arrive so I had more photo shoots, parang minaximize nila yung time na nandun ako. Pero hindi ko naman feel na favorite ako. Sumakto lang when I did the talent portion nung nag-change costume ako (laughs). Feeling ko dun sila nag-start na maging mas curious kasi to be honest all the candidates thought that I was 18 years old, they were calling me ‘baby.’ Ms. Australia was calling me ‘Joey’ which is a baby kangaroo because they thought I was young. When they asked what I was going to do (for the talent portion) sabi ko I was just going to do a traditional dance and then nag-play yung music. Nung sumayaw ako bigla nung nag-change costume ako,” she recalled.
Going into the competition, Winwyn said she held on to advice she got from another beauty queen Melanie Marquez. “They told me to be very, very strong. Kasi I have my fair share of bashers from social media to the point na meron din magsasabi sa akin up front. My mom had that and Tita Melanie had that and they just told me na, ‘Let it be. They have their own opinion. Do you know who you really are? Maniwala ka sa sarili mo. Kung sa tingin nila hindi mo kaya okay lang basta ikaw huwag kang mawalan ng pag-asa sa sarili o.’ And naniwala ako dun. If hindi ako naniwala I wouldn’t be here in front of everyone,” she shared.
Now that she has started her reign, Winwyn said that believing in the laws of attraction really worked for her. “Speaking of destiny, I was talking to my fellow beauty queens, sabi nga nila, ang destiny kahit ibigay mo yung 100% mo sa isang bagay kung hindi para sa iyo hindi para sa iyo. So I believe in destiny. God has a purpose. I lost the first time. Now I was given another opportunity to show who I really am and it worked in my favor. The more you think about it, the more you are positive about something, the more you imagine wearing a crown, that’s law of attraction,” she said.
