Jaime Yupangco makes his theater debut in ‘A Christmas Carol’

As the grandson of Star Magic’s Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan, it was only natural that eight-year-old Jaime Yupangco would gravitate towards the limelight. His mom Juana admits her son got bitten by the acting bug after watching the musical The Lion King on London’s West End during a recent vacation. “I just take singing lessons. I want to be an actor when I grow up,” he said during Globe LIVE and 9 Works Theatrical’s press launch for A Christmas Carol held last November 9 in Taguig.

Jaime got his first taste of being in front of the camera earlier this year at his lolo’s birthday celebration on ASAP where he gave a performance. During his dance, his mom Juana admitted they were surprised at how natural it was for their eldest child to perform in front of a live audience.

In A Christmas Carol, Jaime plays the role of Tiny Tim. “It’s fun. I’m supposed to be the happy boy in the play who changes Scrooge’s heart by being happy even though his family is poor. And he’s also on crutches. I have two songs. It’s not really hard to memorize because I only have five lines,” he candidly shared.

The eldest child of Mr. M’s daughter Juana said he has been getting lots of acting tips from his parents and especially his lolo. Jaime is also a big Star Wars fan which is reflected in his choice of actors he looks up to. “I admire Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill because he’s in Star Wars. He’s super cool and he has a cool ship. For Christmas I asked my mom to get me a ginormous BB8 Lego,” he said.
