After his wife Regine Velasquez’s concert last month, Ogie Alcasid said he is busy preparing for his own show which will also feature his wife and kids. This is also part of his 30th anniversary celebration in showbiz. “So for one night it’s going to be a journey from what music kind of influenced me in the beginning and of course the music that I have created through the years, the music that I have created for my wife. As you know she’s going to be my special guest. I think I’m going to ask my daughter and my son to sing,” Ogie shared.
As his son Nate turns seven this month, Ogie said his son is turning into quite the natural performer. “Actually kumanta din siya nung concert ni Regine. He sang for two nights. Yung kumpiyansa niya, wala alng tumayo lang siya dun tapos kumanta na and it’s a blessing. It’s uncanny. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree so hindi na siya palaisipan. I think he will be an entertainer soon kung hindi man pilot kasi mahilig siya sa eroplano. The singing pilot. I asked him, ‘Anak, kinabahan ka?’ Sabi niya, ‘Not really dad. I think was better tonight than last night.’ It’s amazing. Normally a kid would just freeze, ma-overwhelm pero wala lang. Amazed ako kay Nate,” he admitted.
For his concert The Soundtrack of My Life, Ogie already has a song picked out for his son. “Well meron na akong naiisip na. Kasi gustong gusto ni Nate yung theme song ng Trolls. Yung ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling; so baka i-mash up ko siya sa isa kong mga kanta and then pasok na din si Leila. So parang old song and new song,” he added.
Ogie said there have offers for Nate to join showbiz. “Meron lang nagbulong sa akin baka gusto niyo mag-audition sa ganito, ganyan pero hindi naman ako nagugulat na kasi baby pa yan alam na namin na meron talaga siyang talent. At saka ang maganda sa kanya hindi niya pinagyayabang na may talent siya. He’s a really, really humble and good kid so we’re proud of him na ganun siya. He’s had a few commercials so hindi bago sa kanya yun. Hindi ko alam sa asawa ko. Itatanong ko muna sa kanya. Minsan nga pagka may commercial shoot siya sasabihin niya, ‘I have work today, Dad. I have workshop because I have to perfect in my commercial shoot.’ Napaka-professional ng batang yun (laughs),” he revealed.
Despite being brought up in showbiz, Ogie said they want Nate to have a normal childhood. Yung paggamit ng iPad o games nililimitahan namin during weekdays, dapat weekend lang. Gusto namin normal lang siya. Pagka yung mga kaklase niya nasa bahay lang. Gusto namin normal siyang bata,” he said.
