Doug Kramer and Cheska Garcia share how they deal with critics online who question their values.
When a recent online post of Cheska Garcia quoting the bible verse “Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord” garnered mixed reactions on social media, her husband Doug Kramer clarified and explained the reason for the controversial post in their Team Kramer Facebook account which also went viral. The celebrity couple admitted they just want to move on from the unexpected issue. “Take it as you go. You can’t please everybody. But you know what, we try and be a blessing to people so that’s the most important thing. All I can say is that yung last post that I made it’s gone viral again. It’s up to two million reach right now and it’s all positive,” Doug explained.
All things aside, the couple said 2017 has been very good to them. “It has been a very great year just like all the other years and we feel very happy to be part of the Hapee family, the leading local toothpaste company here in the Philippines. 2017 has been a very big blessing for us especially through this endorsement who we’ve been supporting them ever since so we’re very proud of that,” Cheska shared during the Team Kramer launch as the new Hapee toothpaste celebrity ambassadors held last October 24 in Taguig.
Just like any couple, Cheska and Doug admitted they also have misunderstandings. “We have arguments. Kung magkaibigan nga may arguments ano pa kaya mag-asawa? But when we apologize we mean it. Doug and I talk about issues that maybe I get sensitive over something or I address whatever he was telling me. We really tell whatever it is that we feel. And then after that when we finish apologizing to each other then we really reconcile and it’s not like going back to it,” she said.
Doug added that constant communication is what keeps their marriage strong, “What’s the biggest difference for us, we’ve been together since 2003, married since 2008, and no matter what disagreements we have, literally at the end of the day, we make sure that we resolve it. We don’t ever want a gap, a day or two days that we don’t talk. Hindi uso sa amin yun. We resolve it. We apologize, whoever needs to apologize. That’s our family, you can see we spend a lot of time together. Be it going on trips, going to the mall, watching movies, eating together, praying together, doing good habit, brushing your teeth, that’s how we are.”
As a hands-on father, Doug said he tries to live a balanced life. “I value my time, everything. That’s why Cheska says she wants more time from me but for me also, I spend time with my kids. I have to work with everything so that’s why it’s hard but it’s a challenge that I accept and I love,” he said.
Cheska admitted that marriage has turned her into a more mature person. “I have such a strong personality naku. Pero you know what, I’ve learned that there’s really blessing in a marriage and yung mga immature ways, when you get married talagang you’re able to settle them. I look at my husband na kasi in a different way. He’s my partner, he’s my companion so for me it has really matured me in many, many ways,” she added.
When asked what is the secret to their decade-long marriage, the celebrity couple admitted that they only have one. “We only have one third party and that is Jesus Christ,” Cheska revealed.
