Story of Miss Mauritius’ national costume revealed

The beauty queen showed up on stage wearing a lava and volcano inspired gown designed by Miami-based Filipino designer Kirsten Regalado, and made by students from the La Consolacion College in Bacolod City.

However, little did the audience know that Kushboo got injured after having a bad fall backstage. According to a blogger’s account of the incident, Miss Mauritius’ train was accidentally stepped on which made her lose her balance. She fell face first, with blood even staining the upper part of her costume.

Other candidates, who were already in their costumes, tried to help her and backstage officials suggested she sit out the national costume competition.

Kushboo chose to walk on stage because she did not want the efforts of the Filipino students go to waste. Miss Mauritius was supposed to go on stage after Miss Malta but was only able to go out after Miss Netherlands.

The fashion designer shared on Instagram that one of the kids got teary eyed when she saw Kushboo wearing the costume they made.
