Gloria Diaz admitted that she was also nervous when she watched Maxine Medina on stage during the pageant.
Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz earned some bashers when she initially said that the country’s bet to the prestugious pageant Maxine Medina had a “one in a million” chance to win the title.
Maxine finished in the Top 6 and Gloria complimented her.
"I think she did perfect! Ang galing-galing niya. Actually, while I was watching, ako ang ninenerbiyos. Ang lamig-lamig ng kamay ko,” she told GMA News’ Jessica Soho.
"But, you know, this is our country. You have to just wish that everybody was happy. Everybody was safe. Yun ang pinakaimportante,” she added.
She then gave a short message to her bashers. "O, di ba, tama ako?" she quipped.
Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran also commented on Maxine's performance and said she could’ve used the interpreter during the Q and A portion. Maxine is the first ever Pinay candidate who used an interpreter but still answered in English.
"She did the best she could. To me, sana nag-answer na lang siya sa Tagalog. I think she would've been more comfortable because di siya nag-interpreter."
