Philippine bet for Miss Universe Maxine Medina mistakenly said during the preliminary competition of the 65th Miss Universe on Thursday that former First Lady Imelda Marcos was the one who "invented" the traditional Filipiniana terno dress. After the blunder circulated, she soon apologized for her mistake.

"Sorry for that word... Mali lang 'yung word na nagamit ko. ‘Wag niyo naman sana seryosohin. I did really research it. I read a lot about it," she said. Maxine added that she was supposed to use the word “popularize” instead of “invented.”

Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach then came to her defense and said it would be better to uplift the country’s candidate instead of being negative about Maxine.

"Hindi naman niya (Medina) sasadyain 'yun kung alam niya. Sa tingin ko she just honestly did not know. Let's just uplift her instead of putting her down," she said.

The coronation of the 65th Miss Universe pageant will be on January 30.
