For internationally renowned and multi-award winning director Lav Diaz, working with such names as Joel Torre, Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Yul Servo, Angeli Bayani, Hazel Orencio, and Charo Santos-Concio was exhilarating and rewarding.
And after winning numerous Best Picture awards in international film festivals in Singapore, Brussels, Jeonju, Toronto, Cannes, Locarno, Berlin, Venice, and local filmfests, such as Cinemanila, and the prestigious Gawad Urian, direk Lav is again on the prowl for his second plum this year after Hele ng Hiwagang Hapis: Ang Babaeng Humayo, starring the former ABS-CBN chief executive, now chief content officer, a dark horse in this year’s Venice International Film Festival.
“This new film, revelation si John Lloyd, si Charo. It’s the commitment of the actor. Paano nila papasukin ang character nila,” direk Lav noted.
After all these honorable thespians, who does direk Lav want to cast in a future epic 3-7 hour masterpiece that should win awards worldwide?
Vice Ganda, he said. And he already has a ready story for our unkaboggable star.
“It’s a film na para siyang gangster. I like Vice Ganda, pwede siya eh,” direk Lav tells PUSH.
According to direk Lav, no one should distinguish or characterize actors into a certain category or genre of film.
“Hindi pwedeng mag-kahon ka dahil si Vice nasa commercial (films) siya,” he added. “Pwede sila lahat. They’re all good actors.”
Another artist he wishes to direct is Judy Ann Santos, whom he also holds in high regard.
