The former senator died in her sleep.
The nation mourns the passing o former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago passed away today, September 29. She was 71.
“She died this morning in her sleep, she was unconscious when she passed away,” her husband Narciso “Jun” Santiago told Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The former senator battled with stage four lung cance, which was diagnosed in 2014. She died in St. Lukes Medical Center in Taguig City.
Her colleague Senator Grace Poe offered a prayer during today's hearing of the Freedom of Information Bill.
“I would like to ask we take a moment of silence to pray for the soul of an esteemed, a respected courageous colleague, a woman who had helped us in the past pass the freedom of information bill. May we pray for Senator Santiago, she passed away a few minutes ago,” she said.
The outspoken lawmaker was best known for her fiesty comments and her three-time attempt at the presidency, the last of which happened in May.
Apart from that she's also a celebrated author of some law and social sciences books. The last books she penned though titled "Stupid if Forever" was immediately followed by "Stupid is Forevermore" contained jokes and one-liners that she uttered.
