ABS-CBN Executive, actress Charo Santos talked about working with Director Lav Diaz on the award-winning film, Ang Babaeng Humayo that won the top award at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival early September.
In an interview on Magandang Buhay during the Tuesday episode, September 27, Charo said, “Si Direk Lav, his cinema is free. Walang siyang boundaries. Bibigyan ka lang niya ng espasyo, bahala ka mag- (interpret). You give your own interpretation to the character based on the context of the narrative.”
Furthermore, Charo expressed admiration for the award-winning director. Lav also won the Silver Bear award during this year’s Berlin International Film Festival for the 8-hour movie, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis.
“I believe that his movies deserve a much bigger Filipino audience. It’s a pity that he’s a rock star in Europe and other parts of the world. You know I would see how fans would go up to him and ask for his autograph. Kilala siya ng mga immigration officers sa Venice, nakakatuwa. Nakakaproud, di ba? Sana po mga kababayan, mga kapamilya, sana po ay suportahan po natin ang pelikulang ito,” she said.
Charo then invited viewers to see Ang Babaeng Humayo which runs for three hours and 46 minutes, saying that it has a very solid narrative and offers a different experience. She also said that actor John Lloyd Cruz who is also in the movie will have a different kind of portrayal.
