On Tonight with Boy Abunda, the Voice of the Philippines alumni Klarisse de Guzman and JK Labajo shared their reflections on what makes a good singer.
“What makes a good singer is a singer that does not think about the sales [but] a singer that sings from the heart,” JK reflected. “That’s what makes a singer. Kasi kung marunong ka lang kumanta pero wala naman ka-emosyon emosyon pagkanta mo, okay you’re good but what’s the point?”
When asked by host Boy Abunda if a singer can combine his or her love for singing and the concept for sales, Klarisse reckoned, “siguro po importante rin po sa music yung mga sales po pero ayun nga po hindi maiiwasan. Hindi mo siya maiiwasan kasi yun po yung talagang bubuhay sa OPM (Original Pilipino Music). Yung sales, actually, kaya ka rin nagrerecording para sa sales para din po mabuhay rin po ang OPM, pero at the same time, andoon din po yung passion mo sa music.”
JK was asked about his relationship with Andrea Brillantes, and he shared, “we’re fine, we’re fine really – as fine a feather. We have this special friendship. Wala namang expiration date ho yun.”
He also has been posting pictures on his Instagram of himself and Julia Barretto. He said, “yes po, she’s my ate po and [we’re doing] a teleserye.”
Klarisse who recently turned 25 expressed her gratitude for where her life is now, “masaya po, sobrang thankful ako, and feeling blessed po na yun, besides na naging part po ako ng ASAP’s Birit Queens, may mga blessing po talaga na dumarating sa akin na hindi koi ne-expect na darating.”
Her critics have pointed out that among the Birit Queens, Klarisse is the only one who has yet to have a solo concert among others. On this she said, “siguro kanya kanyang time din po talaga yan. Well, ako po, actually may plan po na may solo concert po, in God’s good time.”
