Actor Aljur Abrenica admitted that there was a time in his career when he felt depressed because of the criticisms about his acting.
During a press conference at the Limbaga 77 Café Restaurant, Aljur revealed, “It was really hard for me. Umabot pa ako sa different stages ng pagkalungkot. Umabot pa sa depression, questioning…”
Taking a break to analyze things, Aljur said that it was during this time that he decided to study more about his craft.
“Sinadya kong magkaroon ng oras para sa sarili ko. I analyzed and traveled para makapag-isip and then na-realize ko, kaya nila nasasabi ‘yun kasi before, I didn’t understand why. I’m doing my best. When in fact, when I (immersed) myself with films and other cultures, kulang pa ang kaalaman ko. That’s the time I studied. Nag-aral ako on my own. Nanood ako ng history ng film, who’s the father of acting, ‘yung evolution ng acting sa industry,” he said.
According to Aljur, this quest has allowed him to develop a deeper understanding of the lives of artists.
Learning about how similar his experiences were to that of great actors’, Aljur said he took them as inspiration.
Now taking on the lead role in the historical biopic, Gil Portes’s Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli, Aljur said, “Ginawa ko na ‘yung mga alam kong puwedeng gawin para mapaganda ang pelikula.” He said he is happy with his performance in the film which will start showing in theaters nationwide on September 21.
“As an actor, I did my best but more than that, ang talagang hinahabol namin, makilala, mabigyan siya ng recognition,” he added.
