Proud dad Benjie Paras on son Kobe: ‘Marunong maglaba, marunong magluto, marunong magdala ng basura sa labas.’
Sharing that both his sons Andre and Kobe inherited his skills in playing basketball, former PBA player-turned-actor Benjie Paras, however, said that it was his sons who discovered the sport themselves.
He then narrated how this came to be during his guest appearance on the Wednesday episode of Magandang Buhay, August 31.
While Andre pursued his career in show business, Kobe flew to the United States where he received an opportunity to play collegiate basketball.
Having earlier mentioned that he sees himself in Kobe who is pursuing his dream of playing basketball, he recalled that just like his second son, he also once thought of going abroad to pursue this goal.
“Kumbaga namuhay akong mag-isa, natuto akong mamuhay ng mag-isa rito. Si Kobe, gano’n din. Pumunta ng Amerika ng wala kami. Nakakatuwa ‘nun is sinasabihan niya ako dati na gustong-gusto niyang maglaro sa Amerika at mag-aral. Sabi ko, ‘Nandito ‘yung trabaho ko, mahihirapan tayo. So, very frustrated siya.”
However, Benjie got surprised when he received an e-mail offering Kobe an opportunity to play abroad so they grabbed the chance.
Living alone in a dorm in the States, Benjie said his son experienced feeling lonely but also became independent.
Saka nakakatuwa, ‘pag umuwi rito ‘yun, hindi nag-uutos na,” he said.
