As part of the much-awaited Star Cinema flick Barcelona: A Love Untold, Aiko Melendez admitted she is happy to be reunited with director Olivia Lamasan whom she first worked with on MMK The Movie in 1994. Aiko admitted she is still in awe of the director’s meticulous work. Okay na kahit ano pa yan,” she recalled.
In Barcelona: A Love Untold, Aiko plays the role of Insiang, the aunt of Eli played by Daniel Padilla. The 40-year-old actress admitted that she couldn’t help but remember her younger days while looking at her younger co-stars. "They really remind me of the Aiko-Aga days. So sobrang nakikita ko yung sweetness nila and hindi natin masisisi talaga kung may maramdaman sila na more than friendship as of now because yung roles na pino-portray nila eh.
Aiko also shared why she thinks the popular love team will go far in the industry. I’ve said this, with these two stars I see myself in you before sa popularity nila pero you know what humbles me is that they don’t know that they’re that famous. Yung paa nila laging grounded. DJ will always have a special place in my heart. You know for Kathryn it pays that your mom still takes care of you. It keeps you grounded. I will always have these special words for both of you even after na ito ang maging first and last movie ko sa inyo. I love you both,” she shared.
During the grand presscon of the Star CInema movie, Aiko also admitted that she hopes her son Andre will be inspired by DJ. "I’ve always said this to Andre, ‘Kung may i-idol-in ka na artista sa generation niyo gusto ko si Daniel Padilla yun.’
