Hidilyn Diaz reportedly received a total of P7 million from the government.
For being the first
Filipina to win a highly coveted silver medal in the 53kg women’s weightlifting
division in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz reportedly received a total
cash prize of P7 million.
It was earlier
reported that the Philippine government awarded her with P5 million in
accordance with Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches and
Trainers Benefits and Incentives Act while President Rodrigo Duterte gave an
additional P2 million as an incentive.
Hidilyn, who was
able to lift up to 88 and 112 kilos during the global competition, said that
she wants to spend a part of it on building a gym for children.
“Sa ngayon wala pa
(planong bilhin) pero gusto kong bilhin ‘yung lupa sa side ng bahay namin para
ibigay ko ‘yung harap sa kapatid ko then ‘yung sa likod, itayo ko ng gym para
sa mga bata sa amin,” the 25-year-old who hails from Zamboanga said during her
guest appearance on Magandang Buhay on Friday, August 26.
Agreeing that it
will be a gym for aspiring weightlifters, she added, “Kasi gusto kong makita na
someday, maging Olympian din sila kagaya ko or sila ang mag-uwi ng ginto para
sa Pilipinas sa Olympics.”
