Daniel and Kathryn also revealed the lessons they learned when director Olivia Lamasan got mad at them while filming.
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla finally got the chance to talk about their upcoming Olivia Lamasan film Barcelona: A Love Untold.
The movie’s teaser was first released during the premiere night of the movie How To Be Yours, which featured Kathryn and Daniel as their characters Mia and Ely, respectively, with Barcelona as their background.
The teaser immediately piqued the public’s interest and Daniel and Kathryn gladly obliged to explain what it was about in an exclusive interview with PUSH during their recent promo shoot.
“‘Yun sa first eksena namin ‘yun kasi ‘yung unang kita ni Ely at Mia. So ako hindi ko naman siya kilala and nagulat ako kasi may biglang lumapit sa ‘kin sinasabi na ako si Celine,” Kathryn shared.
So who is Celine?
“Si Celine ay… isang sikreto. ‘Yun ang dapat nilang abangan,” teased Daniel.
According to the two, their movie under the veteran director is the “most challenging” project that they’ve done to date. More over, it is the project that’s farthest from their “comfort zone” and one that entailed them to do more work as actors.
Daniel and Kathryn emphasized that Inang, as the veteran director is called in the business, brought out certain skills from them, which they never though existed.
“And ang dami mong lessons na maiuuwi kapag siya ang naging director mo, sa pagtatrabaho, kung gaano siya ka-professional at kung gaano mo mahalin ang trabaho mo at kung papano mapaganda ang isang pelikula, hard work talaga,” she said.
But, as with other things, not everything went smooth for them while in Barcelona as there was even a time when Inang snapped at them.
“After nung nangyari na-shock ako lalo kasi nagulat ako na nagalit si Inang and after nun sobrang namroblema ako nung gabi hanggang pagkagising ko,” shared Kathryn.
Daniel for his part pointed out that the incident brought about something good for all of them afterwards.
“After nung incident na ‘yun mas naging tight kami ni Inang. Mas naging super close kami,” he said.
Kathryn added that “Tapos kinausap niya kami kung bakit siya nagalit tapos natuto talaga kami after nun. Alam na namin kung papano para hindi maulit ‘yun. So ginawa na namin ‘yung part namin.”
Inang, in a separate interview, shared that Daniel was particularly hands-on in the creation of their masterpiece.
To this, Daniel laughingly said, “Ah ‘yung pagiging director ko ganon? Pinaramdam ko lang kay Inang kapag naging director na ‘ko. Hindi joke lang.”
The tandem happily shared that Inang welcomed inputs from them particularly about the nuances of their characters.
“May mga inputs lang siyempre na kagaya kami ni Kathryn kapag ganon mo na kakilala ang character mo, alam mo na kung meron kang pwedeng idagdag or meron sa script na ‘Sa tingin ko hindi sasabihin ito ni Ely o ni Mia.’ ‘Yung may ganon lang,” he ended.
Barcelona: A Love Untold is set to hit the cinemas worldwide this September 14.
