Currently seen in a commercial with her son Enrique Gil, Bambi Gil shared why she finally agreed to do something onscreen for the first time. "Every time they ask, I’m always hesitant. But when they mentioned cooking and Ajinomoto, I said okay because I’m very comfortable with cooking and anything food-related. I’m within my element so then I said yes,” she said.
Bambi also said that Quen has always been close to her growing up. "He was a mama’s boy growing up. Whenever my husband would come near me at hahalikan ako, ayaw niya talaga. He was probably four or five years old then. Iiyak talaga siya,” she shared exclusively with Push.com.ph during the Pork Savor cooking demo held last July 2 in Quezon city.
Unlike Enrique’s dad who is pure Spanish, Bambi said she has a mix of Filipino, German, and Spanish blood and that she has always felt at home in the kitchen. "I love cooking Filipino food kasi we’re influenced heavily with Spanish cuisine so since we always visit my husband’s family in Spain every year and my mother also loves Spanish food so we would incorporate that it in our dishes,” she said.
Apart from joining Quen as a new Pork Savor endorser, Bambi said doing a commercial with him also given them more time for bonding. She shared tidbits about the Dolce Amore star like he was “pinaglihi” with tomatoes and how he started in showbiz. "He was very shy as a boy and there was one time when they wanted him to do a commercial so we auditioned for that and he just totally froze. He didn’t want to do anything. They were giving him pizza because it was a pizza commercial. He didn’t move but I was holding the pizza beside him. And then the director said, 'Next!’ so lumabas na kami sa room, paglabas namin kinuha niya kaagad yung pizza at kinain niya. But he was really shy as a boy. And that’s why I’m just surprised that when he graduated from high school that summer, Jollibee wanted him to do a very small commercial and he said yes. I asked him, ‘Are you sure Quen?’ He said, ‘It’s okay mom. I’m with another friend who was in the commercial.’ So I dropped him off at the shoot near MOA and then I just picked him up after and that’s it. Then we joined the summer workshops of Audie Gemora and that’s it,” she recalled.
When it comes to his younger sister Andie, Bambi said Quen will always be a protective kuya even when they were younger. "It’s unbelievable. Even when he was growing up he was very protective of his little sister. And then when we would be in the mall, may yaya akong kasama pero si Quen talaga ang magbabantay. And then I was working, my husband was working. My husband would fly for the airlines, sometimes he would be out for days and me I would come home at nine or ten o’clock. Tulog na yan but my little girl, sisiksik yan kay Quen. Para silang mag-ama. Dun siya matutulog kay Quen. Until now he’s very protective,” she explained.
With Lizquen being one of the hottest love teams in showbiz, Bambi said she has no problem if Quen tells her that he wants to court his Dolce Amore co-star Liza Soberano. "She’s very pretty, very beautiful. Mabait na bata and she’s very mature for her age. And she’s very responsible. So I like the influence that she has on my son. I’m happy about that. That’s all I can say,” she admitted.
Earlier this year, Bambi said Quen invited Liza and her family to his beach house in Batangas. "Nung birthday ni Liza early this year, dumating yung mga kapatid niya nung nag-debut siya. Ayaw naman niya mag-debut talaga. Ang gusto lang niya bibisitahin siya ng mga kapatid niya which really happened and they spent two days in the beach house and they enjoyed it so much. And the lolo and the lola of Liza also was there,” she revealed.
