Trina was known as “Hopia” on the kiddie gag show Goin Bulilit. Was it hard transitioning from a child star into a teen actress that she is now?
“Mahirap kasi naranasan ko ang awkward stage from 14 to 16 years old kasi hindi alam kung saan ako ilalagay eh kung bata ba or dalaga. For three years wala akong project so ‘yun nga ‘yung opportunity na ‘yon, ‘yung opportunity na walang projects, opportunity pa rin siya kasi opportunity siya na makapag-focus ako sa school. Siguro nakabalik lang ako nong 16 years old na ako after Goin’ Bulilit jump off na ako sa teens agad.”
Trina relayed that she will be starring in a Cinemalaya film next month titled Kusina. “I’m going to be the younger version of Judy Ann Santos,” she said.
When asked if she felt any pressure working with the actress, she admitted, “May kaunting pressure kasi sa galing ni Ms. Judy Ann kailangan mapantayan mo ‘yun so pressured pero happy and honored na ako ang napili sa dami ng nag-audition and tsaka happy din kasi ngayon sa movie na ‘to medyo maco-compare, transition eh, doon makikita kung consistent ba ako so ‘yun maganda ‘yung story, period film so challenging siya kasi medyo drama siya.”
Trina admitted that she wants to follow on the footsteps of Judy Ann. “Opo kasi ano siya eh kumbaga veteran actress na siya eh. Hopefully katulad niya nanalo siya ng best actress sa Gawad Urian so ‘yun ‘yung isa sa mga goals ko na ma-recognize ang talent ko sa acting at sa craft ko. Ito talaga ‘yung gusto ko talaga and hopefully masundan ‘yung footsteps niya, sikat siya sa drama na teleserye at ako rin naman I think ‘yon ‘yung forte ko.”
