Annabelle Rama on having a government post: ‘Kapag ako ang napunta diyan I’m sure titirahin din ako’
As negative reactions continue to increase regarding the recent celebrity appointees of President Rodrigo Duterte, feisty talent manager Annabelle Rama believes that she made the right choice by not venturing into politics.
Annabelle, during the recently-concluded press conference of It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez season 4, confirmed that she has seen the new president three times since he was elected.
“Pumunta lang ako doon para makipag-congratulate sa kanya. I didn’t ask for any position. Sabi niya ‘Anong gusto mo dai?’” she started.
Annabelle shared that she quickly begged off from the president’s offer saying that “hindi ko naman linya yan eh.”
“Wala akong alam. I have no experience. Hindi ako sanay sa 8-5 na office,” she explained.
Although having a position would mean becoming more popular than she already is, Annabelle believes that fame is not the main element because it all boils down to whether you are performing efficiently on your position or not.
“Kapag hindi mo kaya titirahin ka rin ng mga press. Kapag kumuha ka ng mga bobong nakaupo diyan… di ba? Kaya iniiwasan ko ‘yan,” she said. “Basta kami friends kasi parehas bisaya. Parehas kaming nagkikita niyan during campaign.”
According to Annabelle, she first met the former Davao City Mayor during the wake of her brother in Cebu some years back.
Apart from her lack of public policy background, Annabelle shared that she has come to love being one of the producers of their family reality show.
“Ngayon maski saan kami mag-shoot biyahe kami ng biyahe. Kasi kapag 8 to 5 ka maiba na ang mundo mo. Eh na-in love na ako sa It Takes Gutz kasi dumadami ang fans namin sa international. Ang daming nagbibigay ng sponsors,” she shared.
Netizens expressed obvious dismay over the president’s recent decision to have Freddie Aguilar head the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
To this she said, “I’m just happy na napili sila. Congratulations kasi nangampanya talaga sila kay Digong pero about that comment na wala siyang karapatan, wala rin akong karapatan na mag-comment dahil ako kapag ako ang napunta diyan I’m sure titirahin din ako. Di ba?”
She stressed, “Kaya wala akong karapatan na gumanito gumanyan. Wala, wala, hindi ko inasahan ang offer. Nothing, he’s a friend.”
Does she think that she made the right decision not to ask for any government post?
“Oo tama naman. Tsaka ayaw rin ng mga anak ko. ‘Mommy ‘wag ka ng makialam diyan, happy ka na sa buhay mo,’” she ended.
