Vivian Velez airs her disappointment over Pres. Duterte’s selection of Freddie Aguilar.
Despite being one of the staunchest supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte, actress Vivian Velez directly vented her disappointment over one of his recent decisions.
Vivian took to her Facebook account to comment about Freddie Aguilar’s recent claim that the president, through his assistant Bong Go, wants to appoint him as the head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Vivian boldly said, “We do not wait. We need to vocalize immediately the artists' ideology that it cannot be ran by just anybody deemed by the office of the President.”
According to Vivian, being the head of NCCA is a “delicate position that entails higher educational background about the arts and particularly high management skilled individual.”
She stressed that much is expected from the agency since it is supposed to look after the welfare of the artists and even give grants to further improve and preserve the country’s heritage.
“Ano ang meron kay Freddie Aguilar para maqualify sya sa posisyon na yan?” she asked.
The former Tubig at Langis actress, however, is well aware that the president has a “soft spot” for the “Anak” composer.
But she pointed out, “I am afraid the move would be ill advised considering that Freddie lacks the experiential background and management skills for such a position.”
Just a few hours after her post, Vivian, as she revealed on her next post, sought the opinion of an expert regarding the possibility of Ka Freddie assuming the position in question. She asked Nick Lizaso, a theater actor, TV and film director who is currently a board of trustee member at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
He stressed that the upcoming head of the agency must focus on improving the state of the government’s management of the culture and the arts today.
“I hope whoever gets to be appointed to head the CCP and the NCCA will share these views. If that be the case I would be enthusiastically be supporting him or her,” Nick said.
“Hindi importante na ako mismo ang mamuno. Mas mahalaga sa akin na tama ang direksiyon at maganda ang pamamalakad,” he ended.
