With his busy taping schedule for Dolce Amore, Enrique Gil admitted he has barely had the opportunity to spend time with his family. That’s why he enjoyed spending time with his mom Bambi while shooting their first TV commercial together. "Every Sunday before when I was in ASAP we would always cook together. Every Sunday yun. But now not anymore. It’s very true I’m a mama’s boy kasi siyempre I look like my mom. I’m like a carbon copy of my mom. Ganun talaga eh. Growing up I remember I was so, so jealous of my dad when he’d make lambing to my mom. Ganun ka-mama’s boy ako. When my dad would make lambing her, magagalit ako nun. Iiyak ako,” he shared during the Ajinomoto Pork Savor cooking demo in Quezon City.
Used to his mom being in the kitchen, Enrique said he enjoys eating all kinds of dishes. "Lumaki kami na growing up we could not not eat vegetables nung bata pa lang kami. So now any vegetables you give us I eat kasi my mom practiced us talaga. So that’s good,” he recalled.
But if there’s one thing the 24-year-old actor does not like, it is the taste of vinegar. "Siyempre pag noche buena we must have lechon di ba? Ibig sabihin the next day paksiw na yun. Masarap yun. Hindi ko gusto yung suka pero pag may paksiw hindi ko nalalasahan yung suka so okay lang. Pag masyadong malakas yung lasa ayoko pero pag may halo na okay lang. Sweet and sour fish okay lang sa akin. Paborito ko yung adobo. Yung acidity lang siguro masyadong malakas sa panlasa ko. Hindi ko gusto,” he admitted.
As a busy Kapamilya, Quen shared his secret to maintaining a good physique and keeping himself happy. "In our job right now bihira lang kasi makapag-exercise. Eh kasi ako pag-da-diet kami ayoko talaga to be honest. Sino bang may gusto ng diet di ba? If you go one whole day na diet food ka lang for some reason hindi ako masaya. Or hindi kumpleto yung araw ko or mainit yung ulo ko. Alam mo yung you feel so deprived that you can’t have one good meal so para sa akin the most important part of the day is kahit sa umaga lang kahit isang masarap na kain. It helps a lot for the whole day. So I make sure kahit may diet ako, I need one good meal in that day to make my whole day happy. And when my mom cooks it tastes even better pa.”
Even when his Dolce Amore co-star Liza Soberano comes over to visit, Quen said they like preparing their own food. "Actually sa bahay we want to eat stuff na ginagawa lang namin. I guess sa Instagram pag may nakitang page na do-it-yourself so we make stuff na very unhealthy (laughs). Just to have fun lang, mga cheese balls or burrito. Laging kini-crave din niya sinigang,” he revealed. During the Pork Savor event, Quen’s mom Bambi shared that one of Liza’s favorite food is spaghetti carbonara.
After meeting each other’s families, Quen said that Liza was immediately given a warm welcome by his family. "I’m good for it kasi alam ko naman. Actually she was the only girl ever na approved right away na walang problema. Yeah that’s true (she’s different from other girl I’ve liked). Liza is a really good girl and she balances me out,” he admitted.
