How does Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio manage to stay positive?
060716-rica_main.jpgFormer actress-turned-motivational speaker Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio has some advice for mothers in order to stay positive despite the challenges.

Admitting that she once thought being positive is something a person is born with, Rica said that she realized positivity can be nurtured.

According to her, one of the many ways is having the right relationships.

“You need other people to actually give you strength. Minsan talagang ubos na ubos na ‘yung energy mo,” she said, adding that sometimes it only takes holding the hand of someone you love for their positive energy to rub onto you.

“I tell the moms na ‘wag naman 24/7 kasama mo ‘yung anak mo. I mean, I like it that you are very devoted and that you would rather be with your kids than anybody else but make sure, like in a week, have scheduled dates either with the husband or with the girl friends. Kasi, your children love you but they’re young and it doesn’t really enter their minds to say, ‘Hey mom, good job.’ But your friends see that,” she said, saying that compliments as such can inspire you to do more.

Likewise, she also mentioned having a strong faith, “If you have God with you, who speaks to you, who is omnipresent, then you’ll never be alone and when you’re not alone, there’s a tendency to just feel confident and positive kahit na bumabagyo na sa paligid mo.”

Now focused on being a wife and a mother, Rica began the project 100% Whole Mom with friends, celebrity Cheska Garcia-Kramer and interior stylist Marilen Faustino, to connect with fellow mothers.

Saying that she can empathize with mothers who strive for perfection, Rica said, “The world is, well, it doesn’t directly tell you but a lot of the things that we see around us, societies or people or philosophies, would impose perfection on us na ‘this is the way.’ Ang daming how-tos, di ba? This is the way to be a mom, ganyan. Tapos nung naging mom na ako, eh wala naman pala talagang perfect how-to dito. ‘Yung 1, 2, 3 step na nakikita ko online does not really apply to all of my problems as a mom.”

She then said that while perfection is impossible, being whole is. The three of them launched the project in partnership with Avida Land’s Homepossible series to empower mothers.
