Student athlete-turned-Kapamilya host Gretchen Ho advised the youth to “rave responsibly” in light of the recent tragedy involving five casualties at the Close Up Forever Summer concert held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds last Saturday, May 21, allegedly due to illegal drugs.
“I feel really sad about what happened. As what I tweeted yesterday, this serves as a strong reminder for people to be careful about using drugs. I mean I know a lot of people who are just so open to using drugs and they don’t see the repercussions in doing that. They see it as something that would make them look cool or something that they can use to take the stress away but then, if you really think about it, drugs in itself is very addictive and sometimes, when you try it once, you can’t get enough, you want to do it again and again and again,” Gretchen told PUSH.com.ph.
Saying that drugs are very destructive, the Lifestyle Channel’s Modern Girls host added, “Instead of, you know, having clean fun, be productive with your life. You’re stuck to a lifestyle wherein you’re under pressure from these different substances so I think, this should serve as a learning lesson for everyone who loves to party, for everyone who is out there.”
Talking about the trending topic, #RaveResponsibly which trended last Sunday, she reiterated, “Please rave responsibly. We want to party but we don’t want it to cause the end of a life… Their lives should serve a purpose and I hope this will turn out as life-changing for a lot of kids who are into drugs.”
Likewise, Gretchen also shared tips on how to steer clear of illegal drugs. “Every time you get tempted to do drugs, just try to find something else to be addicted on like maybe, Clash of Clans or maybe some app.”
She also encouraged people to have friends who are good influences and to look over their own welfare. “Have friends with you who can stop you from doing drugs. I also think it’s important to surround yourself with good friends who will influence you to live a productive life, to be good with your choices, to always be the best version of yourself. I think it’s good to find people who are like that. Once you see that you’re with people who try to drag you into their own problems, into their own stress, into this kind of lifestyle, parang try to stay away from those people because of course, at the end of the day, you’re only left with yourself. When you get home, it’s only you that you have to think about. It’s only you that you’re responsible with. Nobody else will take care of you, not even your parents. It’s just you, it’s your own life so be responsible with it and take care of it. We only have one life to live.”
