A difference of one point hailed Daniel Padilla's Black Widow team as the winner against Hashtags member Ronnie Alonte's Captain America team.
The much-awaited adult basketball division game of the annual Star Magic Games held at the Celebrity Sports Club on Sunday ended with the score of 70-69.
Daniel eventually bagged the Most Valuable Player award for the third time. His first two MVP awards were for the junior division in 2015 and 2013, respectively.
While Ronnie, who was a first-timer at the Star Magic Games, took home the Rookie of the Year Award under the exhibition game division where he also participated in.
For the second year in a row, the Star Magic Games carried the title Sun vs. Stars title in lieu of its retained partnership with Sunlife financial company.
The friendly star-studded sporting event once again paved the way for the stars to showcase their other sides. The event was attended by many personalities like Piolo Pascual, Xian Lim, Gerald Anderson, Maja Salvador, Rayver Cruz, JC de Vera, John Lapus, Nikki Valdez, Matt Evans, Dominic Roque, Joseph Marco, and Arron Villaflor, among others.
Love teams were also seen at the venue like Daniel and Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales, Ylona Garcia and Bailey May, Loisa Andalio and Joshua Garcia, Nash Aguas and Alexa Ilacad, and Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona, among others.
Teen stars Jane Oineza, Sofia Andres, Marco Gumabao, Maris Racal, Marlo Mortel, Axel Torres, Inigo Pascual, Julia Barreto, Andrea Brillantes, Darren Espanto, as well as members of Gimme 5 and It's Showtime's Hashtags and GirlTrends, were also in attendance.
This year the four teams were named after superheroes. They were as follows: the Black Widow led by Daniel, Blue Captain America led by Ronnie, Yellow Wolverine led by Eric Nicolas and Green Hulk led by Jairus Aquino.
The day started with the parade of the participating teams with their respective muses. Black Widow team had rising stars Heaven Peralejo and Ysabel Ortega while the Blue Captain America team had Alexa and Chienna Filomeno. Meanwhile, the Green Hulk team had Andrea Brillantes and Loisa. While the Yellow Wolverine team had GirlTrends member Kelley Day. The Sunlife team was led by their muse Maja.
The program began with Angeline Quinto performing the national anthem which was immediately followed by Xian's invocation. Piolo, the official Sunlife ambassador, gave the opening remarks after which Gerald initiated the Oath of Sportsmanship. The actual event began after the Teen King lighted the torch.
This year's Star Magic Games was hosted by Robi Domingo, Erika Abello and Eric Nicolas.
The swimming relay was dominated by Sunlife participants and Enchong Dee. Under the volleyball category, the Yellow Wolverine team won against the Black Widow team. While the Blue Captain America team beat the Green Hulk team. Budding star Ashley Colet bagged volleyball's Most Valuable Player award. The volleyball mythical six, meanwhile, were Julia Barretto, Gretchen Ho, Marco Gumabao, Joseph Marco, Jed Montero and Ashley.
The fun games' overall champion was the Green Hulk team.
Green Hulk's Heaven and Hatima Bien won in the women's category while Black Widow's Neil Coleta and Inigo Pascual won in the men's category. Yellow Wolverine's Piolo and Kate Pepito, meanwhile, won in the mixed doubles category. The Best Female Player award in badminton was given to Hatima while Neil took home the Best Male Player award. Piolo was declared as the Most Valuable Player Overall in the badminton category.
The Green Hulk team won against Blue Captain America team in the teens basketball division with the score of 36-27. The Green Hulk team continued their winning streak in the mixed adults division against Yellow Wolverine team with the score of 52-49.
Eventually Jairus was named teen division's Most Valuable Player while Bugoy Carino took home the Rookie of the Year award. Junior division's Rookie of the Year, meanwhile, was Anjo Damiles.
Although Star Magic's Dream Team lost to Sunlife Team during the exhibition game, Gerald was eventually named as the exhibition game's Most Valuable Player.
