Maxene Magalona on working with Dawn Zulueta: ‘it was a very humbling experience’
052016-DawnMaxene_PUSH.jpgIn the upcoming Star Cinema romantic drama Love Me Tomorrow, Maxene Magalona plays a role of Jessica, the daughter of a widow played by Dawn Zulueta. Jessica becomes concerned when her mother starts seeing a DJ (played by Piolo Pascual) in the film. "Siyempre every daughter who has a single parent dahil nga nawala na yung dad namin ng brother ko dito sa movie. All they want is to protect their parent kasi kayo kayo na lang yung magkakasama and all you have is each other so you want to be protective of them. When she found out that her mom is actually dating someone younger for the first time since her dad passed away and a deejay na may lifestyle na party party. Kaya ganun ang reaction ni Jessica na mataray medyo galit kasi protective lang siya,” she shared during the Love Me Tomorrow presscon held last May 16 in Quezon city.

The 29-year-old actress admitted she could relate to her character but not in the exact same way. "I’m actually in a very similar situation and ever since papa passed away people would ask me that question and what I would truthfully answer was I’m very open to my mom dating someone new. Hindi ko siya sasagot sagutin gaya nung nangyari sa movie but it happens you know na hindi kayo nagkakasundo, but with me and my mom if something similar like that happens I would talk to her and ask her if she’s really happy then I’ll be happy for her,” she admitted.

In Love Me Tomorrow, Maxene’s character confronts her mom and the boyfriend to show her disapproval of the relationship. But in real life she says she would never handle the situation in the same way. "Actually I don’t like to pry. I don’t like to ask her questions like that but what I want is I want her to be the one to open up to us and there were a few times na may napag-usapang ganun but nothing na sobrang seryoso. it was more of my mom trying to open up or trying to talk to us about stuff like that. She’s my best friend and whatever she wants to talk to me about I’m open and I just want to be there for her and gusto ko siyang maging masaya. Okay lang sa akin. We’re very close to each other. We can talk about anything and okay sa akin na maging masaya siya, okay lang,” she shared.

Working with Dawn Zulueta for the first time, Maxene said was like going back to school. "Oh my gosh, grabe. One of the things I won’t forget about this movie was a scene that the director talked to me and Ms. Dawn for a very emotional and very intense na scene. Siyempre it’s my first time working with Direk Gino (Santos) and Ms. Dawn Zulueta so I was just watching. Para itong school eh. Every opportunity I get in this industry I treat it like a class, like a lesson na eto ang mga bago kong teachers, bago kong classmates. Everything I learn, these are the things I take away after the whole production wraps up,” she said.

Apart from feeling honored to play her daughter, Maxene said the veteran actress was very inspiring to watch. "Pag action na, I said my lines and Ms. Dawn she did everything so flawless in one take and the director didn’t ask for a second take. It was good. Wow, grabe hanga talaga ako sa kanya. And pag tinitingnan mo siya, nakaka-fresh kasi ang ganda ganda niya. Sa loob loob ko, ‘Shucks na-cast ako as her daughter. Eh di ang ganda ganda ko rin di ba? (laughs)’ Joke lang but it was a very humbling experience,” she added.
