Days after Bianca Gonzalez’ defended her daughter Lucia, who got bullied on social media and was called ‘negra’ and ‘ugly’, the TV host admitted that skin color is still a big issue amongst Filipinas.

“Na-insecure din ako noong bata ako, until I discovered my talents and built real friendships and realized skin color doesn't matter. The past few days have been so eye-opening, to find out that so many people are still bullied for being maitim. 2016 na, huy,” she wrote in her new post on Instagram.

She then encouraged those who also got bullied for being dark-skinned to embrace their skin color and be proud of it.

“Naniniwala ka pa rin ba na ‘mas maganda’ ang maputi kaysa sa maitim? Pinoy tayo, kayumanggi ang kulay natin, be proud of it! To any young Pinoy reading this, huwag na huwag ma-pressure na magpaputi dahil hindi mo kailangan yan, maganda ang kulay mo,” she added.

Bianca also said that the value of a person is never based on skin color but with their attitude rather.

“Wala sa kulay ng balat yung halaga mo bilang tao; nasa pakikisama mo at kung paano mo ibinabahagi yung talents mo na mahalaga.”

She also thanked those who voiced out their opinions and was happy that a lot of Filipinas are still proud to be morena.
