As the stars of the most watched daytime teleserye Be My Lady for the past two months now, Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales said they have already overcome whatever doubts they may have had about being a real-life couple who work together on a show. "Walang disadvantage (laughs). Narinig namin from friends and other people that it’s really hard to have a relationship and a soap opera at the same time but well I guess God is really good and He’s really at the center of our relationship. Lahat ng opportunities na binigay ng ABS-CBN sa amin we’re doing good and it’s such a blessing because we are getting to know each other better and better,” shared Daniel during the Be My Lady presscon held last March 28 inside ABS-CBN.
Erich said she was actually the one who was more worried than her Brapanese boyfriend. "Agree ako kay Daniel (na walang disadvantage) kasi so far so good. Una ang worry ko kasi first time ko makatrabaho yung relasyon ko so parang iniisip ko baka hindi mag-wo-work kasi siyempre iba ang trabaho sa personal life pero ngayon with Be My Lady everything is going well. Mas nakikilala namin yung isa’t isa and we get to spend more time with each other. We make more memories. Sobrang saya, we’re very blessed and very thankful. We give all the glory to God,” she added.
Apart from being dubbed as the new “Daytime Prince and Princess” of the Kapamilya network, the couple also admitted that they recently celebrated their first year anniversary. "This one year it was amazing. A lot of blessings dumating sa buhay namin and being together was the biggest blessing. I got to know her family and she got to know my family. I guess that’s the biggest step for something else. We’re very, very happy that this one year it felt really short. It really felt fast because I guess because we love each other and we really hope that we will spend the rest of our lives together,” Daniel explained.
When asked for details about how they celebrated their first anniversary as a couple, Erich admitted she did not want to give specific details of that day. "Basta po this year (laughs). Nag one year na kami ngayon. We celebrate it everyday when we’re together (laughs). Everyday is special with him. Just a very simple dinner. Yun, nothing. Yun lang po yun. Those simple things, yun talaga yung nag-ma-matter sa amin. yung ties with each other. Hindi na yung mga material things kasi hindi naman natin yan nadadala sa heaven. It’s really more about spending time with the one that you love. Anniversary or not, parang he makes everyday special talaga. He makes sure of that,” she shared.
With the show being extended for a longer run, Daniel said they are both happy with all the good news they have received this year including the arrival of his sister’s first baby girl earlier this month. “It was a blessing because malapit sa one year namin I also got to have a niece di ba? Siyempre they also really needed our help so at the same time we were also helping them, giving our best to help my sister sa anak niya. Masaya kami. We’re enjoying everyday with each other and that’s the most important thing,” he admitted.
Daniel also admitted that he is making plans for an even bigger celebration for their anniversary in his hometown. "Siyempre marami kaming plans but the thing is kasi yung schedule namin super maraming work and it’s a blessing so in spite of the work siyempre when we have time I really want to bring her to Brazil. But me to bring her to Brazil it takes time. We need I would say a month di ba? because I want to bring her around and to get to see the rest of my family there so that’s my priority right now. Siyempre we want to travel everywhere,” he said.
When asked if he believed in forever with Erich, Daniel immediately answered, "Of course. With capital letters. May forever. We put it in God’s hands. God really has a big plan for the two of us and if we put Him in the center, I’m sure he will do everything he can for us as well. This is just the beginning,” he said.
