Recording artist Jason Dy, who won The Voice of the Philippines season 2, emerged as Favorite New Artist at the recently-concluded MYX Music Awards 2016.
“Hindi ako makapaniwala. Talagang wow. Dati, pinapanood ko lang ito,” he said, recalling that he was just presenting an award last year.
Jason has also started his acting career by joining the cast of the morning TV series, Be My Lady for which he sang the theme song. “Nakakatuwa po na tuloy tuloy ang blessings na dumarating and right now, tinatry natin ‘yung mga iba ibang bagay tulad ng acting. Sana magtuloy-tuloy pa po,” he said.
However, he clarified that his priority is still singing. “Siyempre music po talaga ang priority natin. Talagang singing is really my passion pero I’m not closing any doors. Kung ano pong dumating na opportunity, I’m open and willing.”
He also admitted that he initially declined the offer to have a role on the daytime show because he felt nervous, citing that he is not really an actor. “Actually, (noong) unang una, nagdecline po ako in all honesty lang po kasi nga medyo kinakabahan ako. Hindi din naman ako actor talaga pero napaisip ako, sayang kasi ‘yung opportunity so eventually, I decided to go with it,” he said.
Nonetheless, everything went well for Jason. He said, “Okay naman kasi light lang naman ‘yung acting and sabi ko nga kay Direk, ‘Direk, baka maya ma-awkward ako kasi hindi ako actor eh.’ Pero sabi niya, ano lang naman daw, as yourself lang so ayun puro pacute-cute lang.”
In Be My Lady, a gay character will have a crush on Jason’s role. In real life, did Jason have a similar experience? “Hindi ko alam. Parang hindi natin masasabi pero flattered naman ako kung meron man,” he answered.
