Cherie Gil on the biggest regret of her life: ‘Divorcing him (Roni Rogoff)’
031916-cherie_main.jpgOn Tonight with Boy Abunda, Cherie Gil admitted she has  “come to terms” with the fact that people see her as The Ultimate Kontrabida. She said, “at least I’m remaining relevant.”

Cherie said about her acting career. “Aside from the fact that I love acting and it’s the work I do, it’s also my bread and butter. Aminin na natin. It's my profession.”

She was also expressive about how she sees acting as a blessing. “We’re lucky that we have such a job. It is a blessing kung tutuusin. Ang dami-daming taong nahihirapan maghanap ng trabaho at maghanap buhay and you know our job is not easy also. But hey, it pays off and we’re given the opportunity to inspire, we’re given the opportunity to be admired, and recognized and touch people’s lives at the same time, and get dressed which I like, so I don't want be a brat anymore. This is my lifeline.”

Cherie is part of the cast of Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis by Lav Diaz. She recounted how she met Hollywood actress and three-time Academy winner Meryl Streep while they were at the Berlinale International Film Festival and how actress Susan Africa “stole” that moment from her. “And the moment I went to see Meryl, and it was my moment with her and I was glued to where I was standing, biglang she saw Susan Africa, she goes, ‘there you are,’ to Susan, ‘how wonderful to see you in person.’”

Cherie complained in jest. “That was my moment e. Imagine! Nawala ang moment ko tuloy kasi hindi ako gumapang sa putik!”

Cherie said Susan’s performance won the admiration of Meryl and even Cherie. “ I was so happy for Susan. Susan has always been underrated, lets just put it this way, in soap operas… She had done something fantastic in this film and I cried when I watched it.”

Cherie also made it a point to compliment Liza Soberano, who she’s working with in the Kapamilya serye Dolce Amore. “Liza she’s so lovely… What I like about her, she’s gutsy. She doesn't just want to play the tweetums that she is. I think beneath the demeanor, she has a lot more to give. I think as she gets older it will come through.”

On Fast Talk, Cherie says the biggest decision she made is “getting married to Roni Rogoff,” and her biggest regret in life is, “divorcing him.”
