Donna Cruz addresses longtime ‘battered wife’ rumor
031616-DonnaCruz_PUSH.jpgKapamilya recording artist Donna Cruz once and for all addressed the longtime rumors that she is a battered wife.

“Grabe nga ‘yan. Minsan may nagtatanong pa sa akin, ‘Uy, binubugbog ka daw ni Yong?’ Sabi ko, ‘Mukha ba akong binugbog?’” asked Donna during an interview at the launch of her comeback album Now and Forever.

More than being concerned about what others think of her, Donna said she worries more about her husband Yong Larrazabal.

“Grabe, nakaka-shock lang. Naawa nga ako sa asawa ko kapag may ganyan eh,” she said.

But the good thing, according to Donna, is the fact that her husband was never ruffled by the persistent rumors.

“Alam mo siya, natutuwa lang ako. Ang strong ng asawa ko. Parang wala lang siyang pakialam,” she said with a laugh.

If anything, Donna did not deny that she was more affected than her husband when such issues come out

“Kasi nga naiinis ako na ipinapalabas na ganun eh. Sobrang alaga ako niyan sa Cebu,” she said adding that, “Mas in love nga ‘yun kaysa sa akin eh.”

Apart from reports of being a battered wife, another rumor that hounded Donna’s marriage was how she was supposedly never allowed by her husband to go out.

To this, Donna clarified, “Kapag wala kong trabaho, sa bahay lang ako. Chat-chat lang ganun, IRC [Internet Relay Chat] pa nun.”

Donna stressed that the “problem” is really on her end.

“Hindi ako mahilig talaga lumabas, kaya ‘yung date namin ni Yong, mga ilang dates namin bago kami naging kami, tinatanong niya ako kung nakapunta na ba ako dito… mga ganitong lugar, kasi may perception sila na kapag artista, palalalabas... hindi pa. Gulat siya,” she shared.

Donna, whose marriage had her leaving her then thriving career in showbiz to be based in Cebu, according to her, is happy with her marriage.

The “Wish” singer considers herself blessed that she is married to a good man.

“Importante po talaga ang pagkakaroon ng magandang samahan, mabait at faithful na asawa. Yes malakas po ang loob kong sabihin ‘yan. Basta ang alam ko, sobrang mahal na mahal ako ng asawa ko and hindi ako binibigyan ng problema,” she said.

“Although ganon rin ang mga pinsan ko, it’s just that sobrang blessed talaga ako sa asawa ko,” added Donna when asked to comment about the unsuccessful marriages of her cousins Sunshine and Sheryl Cruz as the former is in the process of seeking an annulment while the latter is divorced.

Donna’s comeback album is released by Star Music and is now available in record stores nationwide.
