Juan Miguel Severo, who rose to fame after performing spoken words on the primetime hit On The Wings of Love, launched his first book entitled Habang Wala Pa Sila last Saturday, March 12 at the National Bookstore, Glorietta 1.
A collection of Tagalog poems about love that are intended to be recited, Juan Miguel shared why he chose Habang Wala Pa Sila as the title.
“Bukod sa linya siya sa isa sa mga gustong gusto kong tula na nandiyan sa loob, nasulat ko most of that habang wala ang pamilya ko. It’s about love pero kasi I always need to be alone and I live with my family so all of those poems I was able to write only when I was alone sa madaling araw, ganyan. Kaya rin maitim siya,” he said, referring to the illustrations inside the book.
“At the same time, kaya siya Habang Wala Pa Sila because sometimes, if you’re a writer and kapag naghihintay ka ng pag-ibig, sometimes your words are all that you have… Kaya Habang Wala Pa Sila kasi ‘yung mga salitang ‘yan, sila ‘yung nagmistulang company ko habang mag-isa ako,” he added.
Implying that the book will feature different kinds of love, Juan Miguel shared, “There’s a poem there na tungkol sa kapatid ko, kung paano niya ako tinuruan ng tungkol sa pag-ibig.”
When asked about the most challenging piece he wrote for this book, he answered the poems entitled Guimaras and Ang Huling Tula na Isusulat Ko Para Sa’yo.
On Ang Huling Tula which became viral after he posted a video of himself reciting it online, he said, “’Yung Huling Tula, I remember kaya ako nagstruggle sa kanya kasi naexperience ko ‘yung mga laman ng Huling Tula when it was June 2014 tapos natapos ko siya noong mga October na, noong maayos na ako. Parang I felt like I had to step out of that actual situation for me to actually write about it. Kasi noong habang nangyayari pa ‘yung sakit, masyado akong preoccupied nung sakit para makapagsulat ng truthfully about it. It took me months bago ko siya natapos.”
Published by ABS-CBN Publishing Inc., Habang Wala Pa Sila is available in bookstores and newsstands nationwide for P185.
