More than being awestruck by Hollywood star and Berlinale jury head Meryl Streep’s presence, Piolo Pascual revealed that he opted not to take a photo with her because he was too shy to do so.
The Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis actor, who met the “larger than life” actress at the Berlin International Film Festival, shared that he had the chance to mingle and even have a dinner with Meryl.
Piolo who starred in Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis with John Lloyd Cruz which was directed by Lav Diaz won the Silver Bear award in the festival.
"It was surreal! For me, it was enough that I saw her. She was behind us during the entire awards night," he said.
The prime Kapamilya star jokingly shared that he was “chastised” for not having a photo with the Devil Wears Prada star even though they have rubbed elbows a couple of times.
"Kasi I was too embarrassed to ask. It was enough for me to just see her,” he explained.
Piolo added, “I didn’t feel the need to have a photo with her. Okay na ‘yun na nakita ko siya. Parang mas gusto ko ‘yung may mystery sa akin ‘yung artista, parang ‘di ko na gustong makilala pa ‘yung person. Parang kasi if you do not know the person as a person, parang mas gusto mong panoorin eh. May excitement.”
Apart from Meryl, Piolo also had nothing but good words for Clive Owen who was also part of the festival’s jury.
"I saw how she is as a person, so that was enough for me to realize na tao din pala siya... As much as they are larger than life, they are also human beings, they are just doing their job as well. So for me, it was really humbling. Artists their stature are doing work na libre pa nga yata 'yun," he said.
Did he have a memorable conversation with Meryl?
“She said, when she was asked onstage. Sabi ng host, ‘You’re the head of the jury, you’re seven so you’re the dividing factor as the head.’ She said, ‘No, we didn’t have any problems, pertaining to the other movie members, great minds think alike.’ So when she said that, [parang ako] ‘kaw na! When she said it in jest, may point, may point naman siya,” he ended.
