Cesar Montano will be heading Tourism Promotions Board.
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Cesar Montano as the new chief operating officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TBP).
Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.
ABS-CBN News reported that the tourism secretary said that the actor will aid in the preparations of the upcoming Miss Universe pageant, which is happening in the Philippines this coming January.
“This will be a learning process for him. He will help us in the holding of Miss Universe,” she said.
TPB’s primary task is to spearhead both domestic and international promotions for the Department of Tourism.
Prior to Cesar, a number of known celebrities have also been appointed by the president to government positions, including Aiza Seguerra as chairman of the National Youth Commission, Liza Diño as Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson, Jimmy Bondoc as Assistant Vice President for Pagcor Entertainment, and Freddie Aguilar as head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), among others.
Some netizens weren’t able to mask their dismay about this decision as they took their reaction to his appointment to social media.
