Out of this year’s contenders for the Metro Manila Film Fest Best Supporting Actor award, it was newcomer Christian Bables who took home the prize for his role as Paolo Ballesteros’s best friend Barbs in the dramedy Die Beautiful. The 24-year-old actor and Mass Communications graduate from De La Salle University Dasmarinas admitted he is still getting used to all the attention he is receiving from his scene stealing performance in the film. "At first sobrang overwhelmed ako lalo na nung December 25 nung first na lumabas yung movie kasi hindi ako sanay. Pero ngayon napag-pray ko na. I’m very thankful and grateful sa lahat ng mga taong nakaka-appreciate ng nagawa ko at nagawa ng mga kasama ko sa Die Beautiful at sa buong pelikula,” he told Push.com.ph.
A Star Magic workshops attendee since 2011, Christian said he is thankful to be given such a big break as a transgender woman in Die Beautiful. From there, saka ako na-cast nila direk Jun Lana,” he shared.
Christian said that although his role could not be further from real life, he did not hesitate to accept the role. "Yung takot takot hindi, wala kasi as an actor as long as it quenches my thirst sa passion ko, I will keep on doing it. Because Barbs is a transgender woman and ako I’m a straight guy so ayun,” he explained.
The Die Beautiful actor admitted his ultimate dream role would be to play a suicide bomber in a film someday. But for next year, he said that he is looking forward to being more visible in showbiz. "There are a lot of offers my goodness pero sa ngayon wala pa kaming na-o-oo-han kasi pinag-aaralan pa namin maigi,” he revealed.
During the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal held last December 29, Christian could not help but pour out his feelings after his name was announced as the winner for Best Supporting Actor in his first major film project. Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat na nagtiwala at naniwala,” he said.
