EXCLUSIVE: Joshua Garcia considers Julia Barretto as his lucky charm

112916-JoshuaGarcia_PUSH.jpgAfter the box office success of his first film Barcelona: A Love Untold, Joshua Garcia was pleasantly surprised that the first film where he has a lead role—Vince and Kath and James—made it to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.

The film is touted as the only mainstream entry of the eight films that made it to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Unang binalita sa akin actually si Julia (Barretto) pala ang una kong tinawagan and then si Direk Ted [Boborol] and sobrang swerte namin na nakapasok kasi hindi namin ine-expect eh,” he said in an exclusive interview with Push.

Joshua confirmed that their big screen adaptation of the hit social media serye was supposed to hit the cinemas last October 26.

Parang hindi kami umabot. Ayun hanggang sa nagtuloy-tuloy na. Pinasa na [sa MMFF and] natuwa kami na nakapasok,” he said.

Joshua stressed, “Para sa akin ang lucky charm ko si Julia kaya nakapasok.”

According to The Greatest Love star, they were aware that their film was submitted to the MMFF for screening.

Pero hindi namin alam na makakapasok kasi kasabay namin si Ate Vice (Ganda) nun eh,” shared Joshua in reference to Vice Ganda’s upcoming film The Super Parental Guardians together with Coco Martin which failed to make it to the MMFF.

The Super Parental Guardians is set to hit theaters on November 30, along with another failed MMFF entry Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers.

What was his reaction that his film with Julia and Ronnie Alonte is considered to be the only “mainstream” film in the upcoming MMFF?

“Masaya ako kasi kalimitan mga indie. Masaya ako na kami lang ang mainstream. Doon palang malaki na ang advantage namin,” he began.

But Joshua admitted that he’s also quite anxious that their film made it to the film festival.

“‘Yun lang kinakabahan ako sa kikitain namin pero ako kasi wala ako doon sa kikitain. Nandoon ako sa award siyempre, number one. At siyempre doon sa matututunan ng tao at sa mabibigay naming impluwensya sa kanila,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Joshua also finally addressed the compliments that the MMFF selection committee gave over his performance as Vince in Vince and Kath and James. Among those who appreciated his acting was screening committee head Dr. Nick Tiongson, as well as activist-comedienne Mae Paner aka Juana Change.

“Masaya ako siyempre na may nangyayari sa pinaghihirapan ko, na may nakakapansin kasi sobrang pinaghihirapan ko talaga itong pag-arte ko eh,” he shared.

Joshua said he never really expected such compliments.
