Jona says that she initially had qualms about including the word ‘queen’ in her upcoming concert’s title
Jona officially inked a contract with Star Music some eight months after she surprised the crowd by being introduced as the newest Kapamilya and singing We Will Survive’s theme song.
“Kaya hindi namin maisagawa itong contract signing because of schedules nga but now it’s finally happening. I’m very happy at parang na-feel ko na ito na talaga. Mas inspired pa talaga ako to do my work here in ABS-CBN. Parang nagumpisa na talaga ang lahat ng pangyayaring ito,” she shared during her contract signing.
The singer signed a two-year exclusive contract, which includes her upcoming concert Queen of the Night Jona happening on November 25 at the KIA Theater together with her guests Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Jed Madela, and Daryl Ong and an album which is set to come out soon.
Jona has done a number of stints since she moved to the network and she’s also been part of ASAP’s Birit Queens together with Angeline Quinto, Morissette, and Klarisse de Guzman.
What does she think of the “queen” tag?
“Honestly nasama ako sa Birit Queens, though hindi naman ako ganon ka-confident nung una na tawagin na one of the birit queens, pero in-embrace ko na lang rin kasi nasa showbiz tayo and we have to show out performance at its best,” she shared.
As for her upcoming one-night-only concert, Jona shared that she had to tone down her concert’s title a bit.
“Nung nagiisip pa lang kami ng title for the show, ‘Wag naman ‘Queen Jona’ lagyan naman natin ng medyo iba. Kasi ayokong masagasaan ‘yung mga friends ko na pas and queens in their own rights,” she began.
With that they’ve resolved to call the show “Queen of the Night Jona.”
“Sabi ko parang lagyan naman natin ng parang hindi masyadong magiging mayabang ang tunog.’ Kaya we came up with Queen of the Night Jona sa isang gabi maangkin ko siya,” Jona explained.
Even with the support of the network and her new label, Jona maintained that she never felt that she should have transferred earlier.
“Honestly sa mga private na usapan about my career, meron nga rin kaming napguusapan na ‘What if napaaga ‘yung paglipat?’” she confessed.
“Pero wala namang regrets sa lahat ng nangyari kasi pakiramdam ko sa 10 years na pinamalagi ko rin naman sa GMA talagang natuto ako through those experiences,” she said about the traits and skills that she now brought to the network.
