As part of the cast of the first HOOQ Originals digital series “OTJ,” Bela Padilla said she was excited to play a journalist.
"When I was offered this role I did have questions because I did play journalists before. I didn’t want it to seem like the characters I did before . I wanted a new take and when direk Erik Matti told me who my pegs were I was super excited. Kasi nung nagbabasa ako ng script sila agad yung naisip ko. At least from the start, bago pa kami mag-shoot we’re on the same page na pala,” she revealed.
In the new six-part mini-series, the 25-year-old actress will be playing one of the key characters. "I play Pam in the new ‘OTJ’. I play a journalist. I’m very excited kasi when direk Erik Matti told me that the series won’t be as similar to the movie, it would be a new take, I was very excited to be part of the brainstorming and I feel very lucky to be working with such great actors. It’s also my first time to be working with direk Erik. I guess in all the roles actors play, the biggest challenge is to make it look like you’re not acting or that you’re actually the role. So I’m going to make it as believable as I can,” she shared.
Bela said that becoming a journalist has always been one of her childhood dreams. "Even when I’m working I still try to enhance that side of myself so I guess writing is another medium or another type of journalism and hopefully this workshop I’m going to start this weekend will help me into discovering that dream as well.
“Sa totoo lang siguro dahil mula nung bata ako mahilig ako manuod ng balita. And naaliw ako sa mga field reporters na ang tapang eh. Merong field reporters na minsan simple lang yung mga interview, meron din namang pang-hard news or kailangan nila makipagsiksikan like kunwari sa Sandiganbayan, yung mga nakikita mong reporters na nandun, iniisip ko paano yung proseso ng ginagawa nila na nakatayo sila dun maghapon trying to get a good scoop. Tapos if they don’t (get a scoop), what happens to the rest of their day?” she added.
In “OTJ: the series Season 1,” Bela shared why her role will be very close to her heart.
"Actually every time I’m interviewed, this question always pop up na ‘Kung hindi ka artista, ano ka ngayon?’ And my answer has always been I wanted to be a journalist before. So my dream was always to become a journalist. I like things that battle facts. I like reading about trivia and things like that. I guess in a way, I get to live the life I should have if I weren’t an actress right now by playing roles like this. And it’s always nice to play these kinds of roles.
“Like Pam in a way she’s going to be a gateway to finding a balance between cor-ruption and principles because Pam is going to be the voice of reason. So I like playing characters that are very brave. Hindi mo alam eh kung saan siya mang-gagaling. Lagi siyang may pinaglalaban,” she explained.
