Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2016 Nicole Cordoves left on Friday, October 7, to represent the Philippines in the Miss Grand International 2016 pageant in the US.
Nicole will be competing with 79 other women during the coronation night that is happening on October 25 at the Westgate International Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada. Should Nicole win, she would be the first Filipina to bring home the crown from the four-year-old pageant.
Since winning her title last April, Nicole has hogged headlines for being tagged as the “most well-versed” in this year’s crop of Binibining Pilipinas beauties.
To this she began, “Joining pageants, I’ve always wanted to be known as someone who’s really smart, who can actually contribute something.”
According to Nicole, she never really felt “that beautiful.”
“But I’ve always known that, you know, beautiful women you can look at them but smart women lived rich lives. You really get hooked on them. So I really went after life,” she explained.
While she appreciates that people take notice of her communication skills, Nicole confessed that she’s the type of person who does not like being shushed.
“There are bashers or people commenting na ‘Ah she’s too confident, she doesn’t speak like a beauty queen.’ I hate those and I’m very open about it. I hate it,” Nicole lamented.
“The worse thing that you can do is to shut a woman up. You cannot do that, unless she’s nagging,” she joked.
Nicole believes that women these days should learn to become more vocal about their perspectives.
“We really need to let our voice go out there and hopefully bring about better change,” she continues.
With her advantage when it comes to speaking, the public couldn’t help but compare her to the rest. How does she react to this?
“I think each of us girls we have our own weaknesses. It just so happened that communication is my strength,” said Nicole. “But ‘yung pasarela ko or pageant walking that’s my weakness naman.”
