After two years of focusing on other facets of being a celebrity, Jennylyn Mercado is finally back to doing music again.
According to Jennylyn, music is really her first love. Recently, she released her seventh studio album titled Ultimate under Ivory Records.
Puro ganon muna,” she said in an interview during her album launch.
“Tapos nung natapos na, after ng Just The Three of Us sabi ko ‘Ay gagawa ako ng album habang wala pang susunod na project doon nalang muna ako magfo-focus,’” said the actress-singer.
The seven-track album features six original tracks with distinct titles such as “Lampara,” “Hagdan,” and “Bulalakaw,” among others.
Jennylyn claimed that it took them several months before they were able to complete the list of songs that would make it to her album.
While many might find the titles of her albums peculiar, Jennylyn said they came out of her desire to reinvent her brand of music and to try something new. But, contrary to speculations, they were not inspired in any way by the EDSA Revolution.
Kasi di ba ‘yung past few albums puro love songs lang, masakit, puro ganon,” she said. “So ngayon ang gusto namin parang ibang feel naman. Kaya kakaiba rin ang mga titles namin.”
Her seventh song on the album was a cover of the 1980 hit song by Olivia Newton John and Cliff Richard titled “Suddenly.” Jennlyn performed the song with Christian Bautista.
How was the experience?
So, I’m very happy.”
Jennylyn’s Ultimate album is available for streaming on Spotify and may be purchased on various record stores nationwide.
