EXCLUSIVE: Charo Santos on acting again: ‘There is no such thing as retiring’

100716-CharoSantos_PUSH.jpgDuring her launch as an Olay celebrity ambassador along with Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and Janella Salvador, Charo Santos said she enjoys working with the youth. "I feel so proud and I really admire their work ethic. They’re hardworking. They’re both very focused. They’re both very passionate. I’m very proud of them. It’s always energizing to work with young people and I’m very proud to say that both Pia and Janella are very focused on working. They give it their best. I’m very proud. They’re true professionals. I met Pia when she was only 11 and see how she’s grown into the incumbent Miss Universe,” she shared during the Olay #BestBeautiful event held last October 6 at the Shangri-la at the Fort.

The Ang Babaeng Humayo star admitted she feels a renewed love for acting after working with director Lav Diaz. “I’m very happy. I’m very proud. I continue to count my blessings. I cannot ask for more. Gumawa lang ako ng pelikula, nasali sa Venice FIlm festival. Hindi lang nasali, nanalo pa ng Golden Lion. You know, I cannot ask for more. Having worked with Lav Diaz has really brought me a lot of new learnings about cinema. He told me to just have fun and have a great adventure. Really it was a most memorable experience. But of course at first there were feelings of uncertainty of having to go back to something you have not done in quite some time. But I’m a firm believer in the saying that you have to push yourself forward. You always have to continually grow and be the best version of yourself,” she shared.

As an Olay brand ambassador, Charo also shared the secret to her success inside and outside the showbiz industry. "Live life to the fullest. There is no such thing as retiring. I mean should never really retire. One should always be open to learning new things, experiencing new stuff and be kind to yourself. Love yourself and be the best that you can be.

“Enjoy life and experience every new thing that comes your way. Have that attitude of embracing life. You have to keep a positive attitude about life eh. Yung problema hindi naman nawawala yan eh. Pero dapat instead of dwelling on the problems, you have to look for the solution. Just look for the solution. Kung hindi dumadating, hindi pa oras di ba? But you can’t be dwelling on the problems everyday. You always have to transcend your fears and have a positive perspective about life. Because life is beautiful,” she explained.

With the success of her latest film project, does this mean she will be active in showbiz again? "Well I don’t really obsess about the future anymore. Parang I’m just open to what the universe will offer. But yes if there’s a great material, there’s an engaging and challenging character that I can play then why not? And I’d love to be able to work with the younger ones also in the industry,” she said.
