Albie Casino wants his MMK episode to open people’s eyes to transgenders’ lives.
Actor Albie Casino will play a transgender role in the upcoming Maalala Mo Kaya episode on Saturday, October 15.
Taking about the character of a transgender and an overseas Filipino worker named Erica, Albie described this role as a very challenging one.
“Talagang nahirapan po talaga ako kasi lahat, eh - sa pagtayo ko, sa paglakad ko, sa boses ko, sa nuances ko, kailangan kong ibahin, eh. Hindi siya natural sa akin so talagang nahirapan po talaga ko pero I’m happy that I was able to do it. Maraming salamat kay Direk Dado (Lumibao, episode director) and everyone,” he said.
In preparing for this role, Albie shared contacting Erica through Skype. “Tinatanong ko po siya na ano po ‘yung mga nuances niya or anong klaseng bakla siya, kung loud ba siya or mahinhin,” he said, adding that he would also observe the actions of gay people on the set. He said that they would advise him on how to act appropriately.
When asked about what he hopes people will learn from this MMK episode, Albie said, “Itong kultura natin, hindi talaga siya very accepting of gays. Oo, parang si Vice Ganda, natatawa ka sa kanya pero ‘pag nalaman mong bakla ‘yung anak mo, bad trip ka. Kahit papaano, gusto kong tumulong sa gano’n kasi hindi naman choice ng tao ‘yun, eh.
“Ako, hindi ko naman choice to be attracted to girls. I just am, di ba? Hindi ko naman siya pinipili na gusto ko ng babae, gusto ko lang talaga ng babae. Same with them na hindi naman nila pinili maging attracted to the same sex, eh, di ba?”
Further, he said, “It’s not all good, di ba? First of all, you’re getting judged by a lot of people. Parang a lot of people look at you different. And the mere fact that you can’t have a baby with the person you love, di ba ang hirap ng gano’n? And, people think na pinipili nila ‘yun. I want this episode to open eyes for people.”
Aside from this MMK project, Albie is in the upcoming film titled The Escort. Likewise, he is also working on an undisclosed horror movie with Regal Films.
