Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach talks about when she finally realized she had won Miss Universe
010615-pia1_main.jpgIn an interview with ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo, Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach said she enjoyed her first two weeks in New York. “Masaya. First time ko dito sa New York. Nakapaglibot na ako, natabi ko na ang mga gamit ko, natanggal ko na sa maleta. Nakapag settle in na ako sa apartment. Alam ko na rin yung mga lugar lugar. Kaya ko na makapaglakad-lakad sa labas na mag-isa. Nakapanuod na ako ng mga Broadway shows ganyan, so medyo marami na akong nagawa. Nasasanay na ako.

Pia appreciated the warmth of the people in New York. “Kahit na malamig dito, napakainit ng pagtanggap ng mga tao sa akin dito. Yung mga nakakakilala sa akin, kahit na hindi sila mga Pilipino, lahat sila sinasabi sa akin na ‘You really deserve it, I was rooting for you’ ganyan. Lahat very positive yung feedback.”

Pia also revealed some details about the Miss Universe crown that she worked hard for. “Yes, it’s in my bedroom. Hindi ko naman siya katabi, pero nakatabi siya sa kuwarto ko.

The reigning Miss Universe recounted an anecdote about the said crown. It happened backstage right after the controversial crowning. Pia remembered asking her manager if the crown indeed belongs to her. “I kept asking, ‘Did I really win? Are they going to come back for it? Are they going to take my crown? Are you sure?’ Paulit-ulit, ang kulit ko pala. Tapos nung when they reassured me na I did in fact win, I was the winner, I am Miss Universe and that’s when I started to, you know, have a crying moment. Dun ako nagkaroon nung parang crowning reaction, backstage na.”

In fact, a video of Pia crying during this moment went viral online. In the video, an overwhelmed Pia partly covered her face with her hands as she cried.

Aside from the joys being Miss Universe, Pia admitted playing the part can be very challenging too. “Well, kailangan masunurin ka talaga because they’re very organized and they’re very good with time management. You have to be punctual and respect other people’s time. Kailangan mo lang sumunod sa instructions nila and you’ll do fine.”

Pia also said she has some help looking the part. “Well, I do have a makeup artist that helped me today and a hairstylist and, but the little things, the touch ups, I can do on my own cause sanay na rin naman ako and I have a stylist who helps with the wardrobe so ( . . . ) helped me with this one. It’s all from Karen Millen head to toe.”

Another revelation from Pia was that, “There’s a no boyfriend rule. Well actually, they don't try to, it’s not forbidden to be with somebody as long as you’re focused with your duties, you know your responsibilities and you don't let it disrupt you in your focus with your duties. So with me, buti na lang I don't have a boyfriend, so they don't have to worry about anything.”

Asked what she’s looking for in a man, Pia said, “Gusto ko yung matalino, gentleman, may sense of humor. O see, walang physical ‘di ba?”
