National Director for Miss World Philippines Cory Quirino admitted this year’s batch will have an advantage over previous years. "This batch is lucky because they have three mentors, they have Valerie Weigmann, Gwendolyn Ruais, and Megan Young. Megan Young is going to prepare the winner, the title holder of Miss World Philippines 2015 for the cutthroat competition that Miss World is really all about. She’s been there so she can share all her experiences and her wisdom and she also can give them the secret to winning the crown,” she shared during the Miss World Philippines Press Presentation held last September 29 at Solaire Resorts and Casino in Pasay city.

With over a hundred ladies who tried out, Cory admitted they tried their best to get the most qualified candidates because of the pressure to do well. "Exactly. (We wanted Megan, Gwen and Valerie) to mentor because they won, they placed well. Gwendolyn placed well. It was our first attempt and she was our first princess. We’re very happy about that turnout. Definitely Megan is our secret weapon (laughs). The pressure is on because expectations have always been very high. But much higher now since Megan Young won the crown so all eyes on the Philippines again,” she admitted.

Reigning Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann says she can’t wait for the pageant to start and see how the candidates perform. “Actually I’m feeling really excited because I’ve seen all the girls during the final screening and they are all amazing, they’re all blooming on stage and I feel they are all excited about joining this year so I can’t wait to see who is going to win this year. I’m always telling the girls, ‘Be who you are.’ They always look for the girl who always shows who she really is,” she admitted.

After a year with the title, Valerie admitted her life has changed for the better. “Now I’m very open to halos everything. Last year it was my first time to join a pageant and I can’t wait for even more opportunities like this. I think I became more open to people as well because you have to work with so many organizations. My year, if I were to describe it in one word, is amazing. It was really amazing to meet all the girls especially in London. There were 30 girls from all over the world. I really made an effort to get to know them, to become friends with them because it’s not everyday that you can meet girls from all over the world so at least now I can say I have friends everywhere I go. That’s the best thing,” she recalled.

MWP National Director Cory Quirino said aspiring beauty queens who want to join next year should focus on the following things, "They have to start having more experience on the ramp and gain more experience in projection and maybe more camera work like the TV work. Because that was the edge Megan had over the other candidates in Miss World. She was so comfortable behind the camera and in front of it."

The Miss World Philippines 2015 pageant kicks off its activities with the official swimsuit segment in Ilocos Sur on October 6 to 8 and Best in Runway gala charity night on October 12 with the Pageant Night on October 18 at The Theater in Solaire.
