Apart from her stint on the recently-concluded soap Nathaniel, actress Kathleen Hermosa said she was also able to strengthen her faith as her husband is battling brain cancer.
In a recent interview with Kathleen, she shared that her husband Martin Imperial has been undergoing chemotherapy since he was diagnose with the disease September of last year while they were vacationing in the US.
“September 17 nag-seizure siya. Magkalayo pa kami no’n, I was with my Tita kasi five days nalang eh [tapos uuwi na] so I spent time with my family naman and mga relatives and siya naman din doon sa Auntie niya,” she recalled.
According to Kathleen, upon diagnosis, her husband immediately underwent an operation which removed a tumor the size of an egg.
“Wala kaming signs. Walang weakness. Walang symptoms na meron siya. Tapos ngayon he’s on his sixth chemo pero mukha siyang walang sakit. Mukha siyang walang cancer. Pero may tahi na siya pero tinubuan na ng buhok sa may left frontal lobe,” she shared.
Unlike a normal brain tumor, Kathleen said, brain cancer is a lifetime condition whose growth can only be slowed down but not completely eradicated.
Instead of wallowing in despair, Kathleen claimed that she’s positive that her husband is blessed since “Walang na-restrict sa kanya. Noong una binalaan kami kasi magiging putol putol daw ang pag-iisip niya kapag ganon. Tapos binalaan kami na baka hindi na siya makakilala, pero ‘yun din na code blue na siya meaning seconds nalang he will be pronounced dead na. That’s why we’re believing na itong chance na ito, second chance na niya ito talaga.”
However, Kathleen admitted that she was initially taken aback by her husband’s cancer.
“Stages ‘yun. Noong nalaman ko siyempre hindi mo pa mapapaniwalaan. Ngayon pinapalakas namin ang isa’t-isa. Sabay lang naming tatahakin ang sitwasyon namin ito pero kaya,” she said. “Wala namang hindi kaya eh.”
For what it’s worth, Kathleen couldn’t be any more grateful that she has a very strong support system.
“Very supportive especially my sister. Si Tin [Hermosa-Sotto] ‘yung faith no’n sobrang lakas. When I came back from the US, kasi ako ang nauna kasi ako kailangan mag-work, nandyan sila everyday,” she revealed.
In parting, she had advice for people who are in the same situation as her and her husband. “Kakayanin niyo ‘yun basta mag-pray lang ng mag-pray.”
She added, “Just have faith at magtulungan kayo dahil wala namang problema na hindi natatapos at walang problema na hindi nare-resulba.”
