Although they have been sorely missed by their fans since their morning soap OH My G! ended last July, love team Marlo Mortel and Janella Salvador promised that they would be seen together soon as the release of the trailer of their first movie draws near.
MarNella, as their love team is often called, will be headlining their debut movie titled Haunted Mansion. Directed by Jun Lana, the horror flick is also set to be a Metro Manila Film Festival entry this year.
In an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph at the recently-concluded Melai Mo May Concert where Marlo was a guest, the two revealed that they are almost done shooting the flick.
"We're almost done actually. Mga 85 percent na-cover na namin so malapit na. And excited narin kami kasi malapit naring lumabas ang trailer. Abangan nalang 'yan," said Janella.
Apart from MarNella, their Be Careful With My Heart co-star Jerome Ponce is also part of the upcoming movie.
Both Janella and Marlo agree that their roles in the film are challenging.
"Mahirap siya para sakin. Mas nahirapan ako dito kasi iba talaga eh kasi 'yung takot kailangan mapaniwalaan ng tao eh. So medyo mahirap pero tina-try naman namin ang best namin at tinutulungan kami ni Direk Jun Lana," said Marlo.
According to Janella, the film was originally titled Retreat House since "It was actually about a retreat ng mga students tapos doon na mag-a-unfold ang mga events."
Just a few more months before they have to "compete" with other MMFF bigwigs like, Vice Ganda, Vic Sotto and Kris Aquino, among others, Marlo revealed that they never really thought that their film would end up in the annual tilt.
"Actually oo, this movie hindi talaga siya dapat MMFF. Actually noong shino-shoot namin ito first time, hindi pa siya naka-line up doon hanggang sa binalita nalang samin after ilang shooting day na naka-standby na siya and then talagang final na MMFF na siya," Marlo explained.
The OPM Pop Sweetheart for her part shared that she never expected such privilege of having an MMFF entry.
"Ako I didn't expect it. Actually dream ko naman talaga na magka-movie sa MMFF pero hindi ko naman ine-expect na sariling movie ko na 'yun. So, i'm just so happy," she said.
All dreams aside, the two are well aware that competition and box office performance tend to go tight during the MMFF season.
To this Marlo said, "Basta ibibigay lang namin ang best namin and tulungan together with our co-actors rin na mga veterans talaga tinutulungan nila kami, nagbibigay sila ng advice."
Janella meanwhile trusts the fact that the expertise of their director would see them through the festival.
