Ataxia is a neurological impairment implying dysfunction of the parts of the nervous system that coordinate movement. Friedreich's ataxia can lead to scoliosis, heart disease and diabetes.
She published an open letter in her Facebook account for her daughter.
“Dear friends and family, this September is National Ataxia Awareness Day.
"Please support Team Moira as we try to spread awareness and raise funds to help find a cure for Friedreich's Ataxia. As many of you may know, our daughter Moira was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia five years ago. I want to first of all thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers—your support has given us strength and hope for the future.
Please send videos of your support to Moira this year to spread awareness. Her nerves and muscles weakened so she has been using her walker to school to help strengthen her legs, and it’s been tough for her to see this change in her body as she enters senior year of high school.
She is standing strong, we use her wheelchair, she still smiles even though I see tears when she sees other teenagers walking normal, she hopes and wishes to be able to walk like them too.Hoping someday there will be a treatment and cure in God’s perfect time for our daughter Moira and all other people suffering from Ataxia.
“Thank you to all those who have prayed and held our hands towards this journey. Please donate and support Team Moira.”
