Kim Chiu reveals initial reaction when 'Etiquette for Mistresses' was offered to her
062615-kim_main.jpgKim Chiu will be embarking on what she considers to be her most challenging role to date in Etiquette for Mistresses.

During the movie's story conference earlier, June 25, Kim described her role as a mistress as something that is "far from my comfort zone role. Sobra siyang iba. It's really challenging kaya ako go for challenge."

According to her, it would be her first time to take on such role since she is quite popular for playing cute and good girl roles just like the ones in Past Tense and Bride for Rent.

Turns out, it was Kris Aquino who convinced Kim to join the cast after she was among the first ones to be cast for it and after reading the script.

"Nung nabasa ko, nagte-taping tayo nu'n ‘di ba (Kim)? Sabi ko, ‘Kimmy ikaw 'to! This is you.’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘Ate 'di ako sure.’ Sabi ko, ‘Kaya mo, ikaw 'to’”" Kris shared.

The Kris TV host added, "Kasi when you're reading a script mapi-picture mo in your mind's eye, kitang kita mo talaga."

For Kim, the thing that she couldn't do in the film was the very essence of it—becoming a mistress.

"Sabi ko 'Ate hindi ko kaya.' Tapos kinausap ako ni Tita Malou [Santos] sabi ko 'Tita Malou hindi ko kaya,'" Kim recalled her earlier conversations with Kris and with the Star Cinema head.

After much thinking though, Kim said she was eventually able to wholeheartedly accept the role.

"Sabi ko sige kakayanin ko ngayong medyo 25 nako, I think pwede na. Tsaka sila 'yung kasama ko, choosy ka pa ba?" pertaining to her co-stars Kris, Iza Calzado, Claudine Barretto and Cheena.

Mostly though, Kim explained that what really got her to say yes was the movie's women empowerment aspect.

"Hindi ko naman siya gagawin kung hindi magiging magandang example sa mga tao, parang magandang story," she said.

Like Kris, Claudine likewise revealed Kim's earlier apprehensions which mostly dealt with her public image.

"I was telling Kim nga kanina na nung nine-nerbyos siya the whole time sa mga concerns niya. Basta sabi ko 25 years old na siya and actress siya, iniisip niya kanina na paano daw 'yung fans niya? Dati daw ganito buhok niya, tapos ngayon ganito na ka-iksi ang suot niya," Claudine said.

In the end, the returning actress shared her earlier words of wisdom for Kim. "Sabi ko sa kanya mas gugustuhin ng fans niya na makita 'yung pagiging aktres mo, so mag-e-evolve ka."

To this, Kim exclaimed: "Galing 'yan sa kanilang lahat, choosy pa ba ako? Go!"

The Etiquette for Mistresses is based on a book written by Jullie Yap-Daza which will be directed by Chito Rono.
