Unlike most teen romantic stories that made it to the big screen, Stars Versus Me shakes up the format of two people who fall head over heels in love and live happily ever after and instead gives an interesting take on what it means to listen to the stars. Written and directed by Joven Tan, the story starts out with the life of Elena (Maris Racal), an independent girl who grew up with a mother (Matet De Leon) who is a devout believer in the power of the stars. And because she and her mom share the same sign, everything in their lives revolved around what the forecast was for their horoscope of the day.
When tragedy struck one day, Elena made a vow to now deliberately go against whatever fortune she had for the day. She then crosses paths with happy-go-lucky Sonny (Manolo Pedrosa) whom she finds herself drawn to even if he makes her feel confused. A visit to a fortuneteller rocks their happy courtship and Elena ends up discovering a deep, dark secret that changes her and Sonny's lives forever.
Having just gone out of the Pinoy Big Brother house last year, Manolo and Maris faced a big challenge of headlining their first movie as a love team. “MarNolo” fans will be happy to know that there is no shortage of “kilig” scenes in this movie to keep them gushing all throughout the story. Although the more dramatic scenes proved a bit hard for the these up and coming teens, it only goes to show how much potential they have when doing scenes against each other. Supporting actors Jenine Desiderio, Rita Avila, and Arlene Muhlach help give added depth to the story as the other interesting characters that the leads interact with regularly. Cameos by comedians Dennis Padilla and Negi also add a fun flavor to the film.
Watch Stars Versus Me starring Manolo Pedrosa and Maris Racal starting June 3 in theaters nationwide.
