Tippy Dos Santos plays a disturbed girl in the movie ‘Abomination’ directed by Yam Laranas.
Apart from her duties as a resident VJ on MYX and being a full-time university student, Tippy Dos Santos said she is excited to work on her first international indie film under critically acclaimed director Yam Laranas. “I do not have a musical production this year, but I am coming out with a movie called Abomination which is directed by Yam Laranas. Actually the thing with Abomination is that it is also an all-English film. Because it has to be released in a different country so yung mga kasama din namin dun
all Caucasian looking. So you never really know where the setting is. It's an international indie film pero
most likely lalabas din siya dito so inaabangan ko yun
. It's a psycho thriller so I play the psycho in the movie. It's about Rachel, a young American girl na ang dami niyang problema, ang dami niyang pinagdadaanan sa
movie. Kakaiba rin talaga siya.
I think it's set to be released in April in either Montreal or Brussels pero hindi ko pa alam kung kelan siya ilalabas dito
,” she shared.
The 20-year-old VJ-host shared how she landed the lead role. “I auditioned for it. Tumawag ang Unitel productions who is the line producer for the movie. They called to audition for it and direk Yam got me. Grabe the experience to work under him kasi napaka-talented niya talaga. Ibang klaseng director. He is the bomb, sobrang galing niya talaga. I've never worked with him [before]. I've heard of him kasi I think he's the only director who's shown a Filipino film sa Hollywood tapos first Blu-Ray Filipino film din. Diyos ko, ‘pag kasama mo siya on the set parang sobrang talino niya talaga. Lahat ng aspeto ng movie sobrang pulido ang galing niya talaga,” she said.
The journey from hosting to acting was something Tippy said came naturally ever since she started showbiz in 2009 via Star Magic. “Kasi nung pumasok ako ng ABS-CBN pinaggawa nila ako ng TV and then I do theater, both mediums are very different from each other so parang nasanay na ako na kailangan mong mag-adjust pag TV maliit lang, pag-theater malaki. Now for hosting naman kailangan you have to always be bubbly no matter what event that is, kahit formal event gusto pa rin ng tao na masaya yung nakikita nila onstage so I think I've trained myself to really adjust to the different mediums of performing. Kasi for me hosting din is performing, nag-iisip ka palagi ng kung anong masasabi mo sa mga tao,” she explained.
Tippy shared that she will also be singing more this year, “I'm also releasing a digital album this year under Universal Records. Hindi ko pa siya na-re-record. Nakapag-talks na kami na I'm releasing it this year so sana abangan yun ng mga tao.”
As part of the MYX Music Awards last March 25, Tippy recalled how she got her start in the popular music channel. “I've been singing since matagal na and I'm also a Star Magic artist so when I got the text to audition to be a MYX VJ siyempre punta kaagad ako kasi I've been wanting to host for a long time. Actually ever since all the VJs have their own flavor to the shows that they do but siguro yung peg ko for veejaying would be Nikki Gil. She's just so intelligent and once you see her on screen, parang mapapa-oo ka na lang sa mga sinasabi niya talaga. Nakakadala how she talks and how she presents herself,” she admitted.
As a full-time college student, Tippy says the sacrifice is always worth it balancing both worlds. “I am on my last semester of my third year so mag-su-summer class ako para bawas load tapos last two semesters na after that. How do I balance it? Walang tulog talaga. Pero I enjoy studying and I enjoy what I do so wala dapat mag-suffer sa dalawa, dapat pagsabayin (laughs). I will not go full blast [in showbiz] na hindi ako mag-aaral until I graduate. Like VJ Robi Domingo gusto ko rin sana mag-medicine but after I graduate and get my bachelor's degree, siguro mag-be-break muna ako from studying and see what happens if I go full blast,” she said.
With her hands full right now with work and school, Tippy said having a love life is the last priority. “I'm happy. I have friends (laughs). I'm just enjoying. I'm just 20 and I don't know yet. I am inspired, yun na lang. And my family inspires me also.”
